Czech/Slovak gang suspected of massive tax fraud on solar panel deals

A gang of Czechs and Slovaks have been indicted for alleged fraudulent activity, which may have cost the Czech state some CZK 175 mln, the local media reported on Dec. 16.

“Two Czech men and one Slovak are suspected of depriving the state of CZK 175 mln in solar panel deals, which is the most serious tax evasion case in the region in the past 20 years,” Czech news internet service, The Prague Monitor reported.

It is suspected that the gang was allocated the massive tax returns based on fictitious invoices. In a separate case, the two Czech individuals reportedly made some CZK 121 mln by selling old solar panels as new.

If convicted the gang could face some 10 years in prison.
