Powerful investor in Romania indicted for complicity in embezzlement
One of the most powerful investors in Romanian real estate industry, Greek businessman, Ioannis P., was accused of complicity in embezzlement by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrosism (DIICOT) in the case related to two Romanian investment companies, SIF Banat-Crisana (SIF1) and SIF Muntenia (SIF4), the Romanian newswire, the Romania Insider, reported, Dec. 17.
â€śIoannis P. was questioned about a possible involvement in a financial scheme, which allegedly took money out the two investment companies and into the personal accounts of Romanian businessman,Â Dragos B. and his business partner, Lebanese businessman, Najib el L.,â€ť the newswire announced.
Dragos B., the president of SIF Banat-Crisana, and Najib el L., member of the board, were recently arrested, as a result of several searches conducted at the two aforementioned companies.
Ioannis P., who was questioned last Tuesday (Dec. 16) and Wednesday (Dec. 17) by DIICOT prosecutors, heads up Globalworth Real Estate Investments, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange, which dominates on office real estate market in Bucharest. The prosperous company has bought four large office buildings in Bucharest this year for more than EUR 190 million, as well as plans future development projects.
