Ukrainian President agrees to cut his powers

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych agreed to cut his powers within the next 48 hours, according to a draft agreement on the crisis regulation to be signed today, the Ukrainian daily Fakty.ua wrote, Feb. 21.

“The draft agreement on the crisis regulation, which followed the meeting between Yanukovych and the opposition with the foreign ministers of Poland, Germany and France on Feb. 20, centers on the return to the 2004 Constitution, under which the president’s power will be cut,” the media wrote.

A Polish Parliament spokesperson, Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska, noted that the agreement is not ready for signing yet and there is no guarantee that the Ukrainian authorities will implement it.

Arrangements described in the draft agreement also envision the forming of a new coalition government within 10 days, according to the media.
