Russia easies embargo on EU and US food products
Russia has decided to exclude some products included in the August-announced embargo imposed on US, EU, Australia, Canada and Norway, the Bulgarian newswire, Novinite, reported Aug. 21.
“According to a decree published by the Russian government Aug. 20, Russia excluded from the blacklist the following food products: lactose-free milk, potatoes, small salmon and trout for breading-pools, potato and onion seedlings, hybrid sugar corn and peas, and also biologically active supplements,” the local media reported.
The Aug. 20 decree, signed by the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, partially eases Russian restrictions introduced Aug. 7 in response to the sanctions that EU and the US imposed on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine.
The local media reported also that Belarus had dropped a ban on cattle imports from the EU and that it plans to increase its food exports to Russia by 15 to 40 percent in 2014.
