Former son-in-law of the Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Rakhat A., was arrested in Vienna, June 5, the Russian business daily Ria Novosti wrote.

“Rakhat A., who previously held the post of the Kazakhstan ambassador to Austria, is suspected of a murder and was arrested in Vienna on June 5,” the media wrote. “The former diplomat surrendered himself to the justice system and intends to cooperate with investigators.”

The arrest warrant for Rakhat A. was issued in Austria on May 19.

“Now Rakhat A.’s case is the internal affair of Austria,” according to the Vienna Prosecutor’s Office.

In 2008, Rakhat A. was sentenced in absentia to a total of 40 years in prison in Kazakhstan for preparations for the seizure of power and organizing a criminal group involved in kidnapping.
