Ukrainian former judge accused of bribery will spend 10 years in prison

The court rejected the appeal of the attorney of a former judge from Lviv, Igor Zvarich, who was sentenced for 10 years in prison after being caught in the act of bribery in 2008.

The court rejected the appeal of the attorney of a former judge from Lviv, Igor Zvarich, who was sentenced for 10 years in prison after being caught in the act of bribery in 2008.

The Court of Appeal of Kiev rejected the appeal on the sentence of a former judge from Lviv, who was convicted of bribery and sentenced for 10 years in prison, the Ukrainian daily Fakty reported Sept. 4.

“The court rejected the appeal of the attorney of a former judge from Lviv, Igor Zvarich, who was sentenced for 10 years in prison after being caught in the act of bribery in 2008,” the paper wrote.

Zvarich’s advocate demanded to release the convict under an amnesty in connection with the alleged ignorance of the Court of First Instance of legislative changes, according to the media.

Zvarich, a former Lviv Court of Appeal’s judge, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and the confiscation of property in September 2011. Zvarich was also deprived of the right to hold any position in the courts and to perform any organizational and executive functions in public institutions.

The criminal case against Zvarich was initiated in December 2008 after the former judge was caught on accepting a bribe in his office, according to Fakty.
