Novartis employee pleads guilty in bribery prosecution in Poland
An employee, who works for a Swiss drug maker Novartis, pleaded guilty in a bribery case involving improper payment, which is been investigated by Polandâ€™s anti-corruption bureau, the media portal, 7 news, wrote, quoting Novartis, Oct. 10.
â€śTwo women had appeared in court in a bribery case, according to which they gave a health fund official a tourist trip worth more than USD 1,000 in exchange for backing the sale of a particular medicine,â€ť according to the Polandâ€™s anti-corruption bureau. â€śBoth defendants pleaded guilty.â€ť
Swiss-based Novartis confirmed that one of the two women was the companyâ€™s employee, who had been put on leave.
â€śThe Polish authorities did not involve the company though.â€ť
The case was called by the media as embarrassing for the pharmaceutical industry.
Both women are currently awaiting sentencing.
