Evidence of secret deal on South Stream pipeline?

Bulgaria’s Reformist Bloc, an alliance of democratic parties, claims to have obtained evidence of a  secret agreement between Bulgaria and Russia’s Gazprom on the South Stream pipeline, the Bulgarian newswire Novinite reported, June 17.

“We possess clear evidence and documents showing that the Bulgarian government and Russia’s Gazprom signed an agreement three days after the May 25 European elections,” said Petar Moskov from the Reformist Vloc, as cited by the newswire.

Moskov did not reveal the nature of the agreement in his statement. Nevertheless, the Reformist Bloc vowed to expose more infringements linked to South Stream by Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski’s cabinet shortly.

The South Stream project is currently the center of controversy in the region. Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski recently ordered a halt of all work on the South Stream project, to complying with EU regulations. Earlier this week, Parliament Speaker Mihail Mikov stated that the project cannot be frozen without parliamentary approval.
